This brand new series of short chapter books feature girls doing girls' stuff - hanging out, getting into scrapes and standing up to the boys. Written specifically for reluctant readers, they appeal particularly to girls in 2nd to 6th Class of Primary School. The reading age is 7-8. Each book centres around a theme of interest to girls and is written in dialogue format, thus encouraging shared and paired reading and presenting individual readers with short bursts of text. This playscript style is particularly successful with less experienced readers who may be intimidated by the sheer amount of script in more conventional books. Additionally each book contains related facts, jokes, quizzes and a letter from the authors - features which are especially appealing to girls of this age. |
