Dark Man Series

Age 11+ Reading Age 5-8

This is a series of reading books for children and young adults aged 11 and older who are struggling to read. The books cover a reading age of approximately 5 to 8. Each book features the character Dark Man, a shadowy, brooding loner who shuns society, living in the shadows. He has been recruited to play a part in a secret, cataclysmic struggle between good and evil. His continuing mission is to seek out an artefact, a Golden Cup, which can channel limitless power and energy. Opposed to him, and also seeking to find this cup of power, are a sinister and corrupt organisation, The Shadowmasters. The books are broadly graded across a range of reading abilities, so that readers can start with a book that reflects their reading level. The stories are each between 200 and 400 words in length, focusing on the most common words.

The Second set of books extend to about 1000 words, and continue the Dark Man's struggle agains evil.

The books include:

  • Simple text support those with a very low reading age;
  • Broad grading helps consolidate and develop literacy skills;
  • Dark, evocative illustrations support  the text;
