Citizenship and PSHE

Looking at Citizenship

Reading age 7+ years - Interest level 7-16 years

This series of photocopiable books has been designed to help children develop as members of society. Concerned with issues such as right and wrong, fairness, democracy and equality, it helps them think and talk about concerns in their own lives and the lives of others around them.
Citizenship is combined with PSHE aiming to prepare children as citizens whilst at the same time teaching them the rules for a safe and healthy lifestyle. It is designed to develop their social skills and help them share, take turns and resist bullying as well as taking more responsibility for their actions.

New Leavers' Programme

Reading age 8+ years. Interest level 13 to 16 years.

A series of 3 photocopiable books designed for pupils at Key Stage 4, who have learning difficulties, working at Levels 2 to 4 of the National Curriculum. They have been found effective across a wide ability range. They cover a cross-curricular PSE course, each individual sheet making a contribution to several different areas of the National Curriculum, in particular, English and Mathematics.

The worksheets are intended as a stimulus or introduction to a topic. There are suggestions for follow-up work which are open-ended to encourage discussion by the pupils which could lead to further investigative work.

Put your pupils into real-life situations and fire them with enthusiasm. Over 20 photocopy masters provide stimulating oral and written work for pupils.

Book 2. The Island deals with an imaginary group of people whose plane crashes onto a desert island. This unit covers English, Maths, Geography and Technology in the National Curriculum.

Science

Support for Basic Science

A series of 12 differentiated resource books in four units containing follow-up and reinforcement work for all the main topic areas of the Science National Curriculum at levels 1, 2 and 3 and at levels 2, 3 and 4 for Unit 4. The first 3 units cover the whole of the KS 2 syllabus. However, they have also proved to be successful for KS1 and KS3 pupils. To cater for KS3 pupils a 4th unit has been added that covers all the topics that are not covered in the first three units but are required at KS3.
Three books per unit - A (level 1), B (level 2) and C (level 3). These books are linked by content but are at a different National Curriculum level to facilitate work with pupils of varying ability. Sample page 8s from Unit 1 book A, B and C are shown below and illustrate the differentiated approach of this series.
Record sheet with desired learning outcomes - useful for both record keeping and planning a programme of work - each page is shown where it fits into the national curriculum and at what level.
Teacher notes for each page with suggestions for practical, investigative and discussion activities.
Check-up tests to give children experience in and familiarity with SAT - style questioning techniques.
Full glossary of key scientific words to help extend vocabulary.

Unit 1 - Life processes and living things.
Unit 2 - Materials and their properties.
Unit 3 - Physical processes

Religious Education

Support for Religious Education

A series of photocopiable books providing support material as part of a class teacher's programme of work for RE. The materials offer differentiated work to meet the needs of pupils at KS 2 and into the early terms of KS 3 who require carefully scaffolded work to help them engage fully during RE lessons. The materials may also be used as a starting point for developing topics addressed in this book. However, these materials are not intended as a definitive resource for RE, but more as useful extension and consolidation activities.

Books 1 - 6 offer opportunities for discussion and comparison across all the religions addressed and, where practical, common aspects of the religions are presented in identical stages of each book. This provides the teacher with an easy at-a-glance reference point to facilitate locating appropriate comparison exercises.
