Picture Sums

Reading age 5 to 8.5 years - Interest level 5 to 12 years.


This series of photocopy masters provides enjoyable activities to support the teaching of basic mathematic skills for pupils at Key Stage 2 working at levels 1, 2 and 3 of the National Curriculum in Mathematics.
Some pages have a hidden picture which is divided into segments each segment contains a sum. The answer to the sum is the code to a colour, the pupils then colour the segment with that particular colour and so develop the picture. Other pages have trails which the pupils follow by finding the answers to sums positioned on the paths of the trail.
Each book is based around a theme so that cross-curricular links are possible.

Book 1: Addition Number bonds up to 50. Theme: Food.
Book 2: Subtraction Number bonds up to 50. Theme: Leisure.
Book 3: Multiplication Number facts up to 100. Theme: Transport.
Book 4: Division Number facts up to 100. Theme: Settlements.
Book 5: Addition and subtraction up to 100. Theme: Manufacturing.
Book 6: Multiplication and division up to 100. Theme: Music.

 

Support for Basic Maths

Interest level 5 - 13 years.

A series of maths photocopy masters which support the teaching of basic mathematic skills and target pupils at Key Stage 2 working towards levels 1 and 2 of Mathematics in the National Curriculum. The books can be used to complement the work being undertaken from any maths scheme and to provide additional learning opportunities, particularly for children with special needs.
At the end of each book are several Teachers Resource Sheets which can be personalised by teachers and used in several ways according to the pupils' needs.

Catch Up in Maths

Reading age7+ years - Interest level 9-15 years

A series of 15 differentiated resource books in five units containing follow-up work and reinforcement work for all the main topic areas of the Maths NC and the NNS at levels 1, 2, 3 and 4. Three books per unit - A, B and C. These books are at a different NC level to facilitate work with special needs pupils of varying ability. The A books are at level 1-2, B books are at level 2-3 and the C books are at level 3-4. The series is suitable for use as part of the Year 7 Catch-up programme. Three sample pages are shown below.
Record sheets with desired learning outcomes are useful for record keeping and planning a programme of work as each page is linked to the national curriculum.
Ideal for use as homework assignments.

 

Support for Mental Maths

A series of twelve differentiated resource books containing reinforcement work for all the main mental maths strategies outlined in the National Numeracy Strategy at levels 1, 2, 3 and 4.

  • Unit 1: Mental Strategies for Number and Word Calculations
  • Unit 2: Mental Strategies for Real Life, Money & Measuring Problems
  • Unit 3: Strategy Check-up Tests
  • Unit 4: SATs Style Practice Tests. This unit provides 24 scripts and 24 answer grids. An audio CD has all the scripts and utilises an alternative voice with consistent timings to provide a realistic test environment.

Each book is written at a different National Curriculum level to facillitate work with special needs pupils of varying ability. The series is made up of four units. In each of these units there are three books -
A (level 1-2), B (level 2-3) and C (level 3-4).
In addition to the work on mental strategies, there are:

    • Teachers' Notes for each page in Units 1 and 2 give suggestions for reinforcement and back-up oral activities.
    • Record Sheet - records individual pupil’s results.

Looking at Geography

Reading age 8+ years - Interest level 11-16 years

This series is designed to provide support materials working towards level 4 of the National Curriculum. The books take the form of ready-to-use lessons. Pupils are encouraged in their work by a variety of tasks in which learning is achieved through small incremental advances.

Book 1: LOCATION - places listed in the National Curriculum with emphasis on Great Britain.
Book 2: TECTONICS - 1 - forces which cause earthquake and volcanic activity.
Book 3: TECTONICS - 2 - effects of earthquakes and volcanoes on individuals and societies.
Book 4: WEATHER - essential features determining and controlling weather.
Book 5: CLIMATE - features and factors influencing rainfall and temperature.
Book 6: CHANGING LANDSCAPES - how rivers and seas modify aspects of the landscape and the natural hazards associated with them.

Support for Geography

Reading age 7+ years - Interest level 7-13 years

This series of twelve books is designed to support the teaching of geography at KS 2. The workbooks link closely to the units of work suggested for each year group by the QCA and in accordance with the National Curriculum programme of study for KS 2. Each book targets a main unit but provides information for linking units throughout KS 2.
The materials offer differentiated work to meet the needs of children at KS 2 who require carefully scaffolded material to help them engage fully during geography lessons. The worksheets may be used as starting points to develop topics addressed in this book. The series would also be appropriate for use with some pupils in the early stages of KS 3.

Looking at History

This series of books is designed to supplement a teacher’s scheme of work for history at Key Stage 3. As well as helping to develop the historical skills of interpretation, enquiry and communication, the work aims to promote basic reading and writing skills.

The activities are designed for special needs groups working with support assistants or groups working in a classroom situation. When the worksheets are used as the focus of group activities, they provide opportunities for discussion, verbal rehearsal and consolidation of factual material.
The books are intended as support but are not intended to be used as a core teaching programme. Tasks are set at a variety of levels so that teachers can usually find work to suit the needs of all pupils.
